This is Adam's third son, and the first since Cain killed Abel. God told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, but they had no children for 130 years.
These nameless ones are the first girls born in the Bible.
Adam's descendants were an infertile bunch. It took them an average of 158 years to have a first son.
So much for being fruitful and multiplying!
Here's a list of the number of years it took them to get the job done: Seth 105, Enosh 90, Kenan 70, Malhalalel 65, Jared 162, Enoch 65, Methuselah 187, Lamech 182, Noah 500.
When Lamech was born, nine generations were alive at once.
Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, and Lamech were all alive at the time of Lamech's birth.
Adam lived to see his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson.
When Noah was 500 years old, he had three sons in one year!
Was that with one (nameless) wife or several? Or were they triplets?
All these sons and daughters were "begat," yet no mention of any mothers. God makes a fuss early on because he thinks Adam should have a "help meet" or a companion, but when the first genealogy comes forth, he forgets to credit any mothers for all that reproduction going on.
This is the first genealogy in the Bible. I don't really have that much to say about this, because it's boring as sin, but apparently, people back then lived really long lives.
Oh, and this is where Noah and his family are introduced. They seem interesting, I wonder what kind of stuff they'll get themselves into?
