What The Bible says about Cryptozoology

The Bible refers to many organisms that are unknown to science. Here are some of God's cryptids.

Satyrs appear only twice in the King James translation of the Old Testament (both in the book of Isaiah). We get the name satyr for this mythical beast from the Hebrew word saiyr (Strong's Concordance #H8163).
Saiyr, other than rendered as satyr, is also translated as "hairy" (Genesis 27:11, 23, etc.), "goat" (Leviticus 4:24, 9:15, etc.), a "kid" of the goats (Genesis 37:31, Leviticus 4:23, etc.) and even "devils" (Leviticus 17:7) in other places in Scripture.

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there (Isaiah 13:21, KJV).

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest (Isaiah 34:14, KJV).

The name Lilith is taken from a single passage of the Bible. It is based on the Hebrew word liyliyth (Strong's Concordance #H3917) found only in Isaiah 34. The word itself means "a night specter" or screech owl.

Lilith is found in a section that warns the entire world (Isaiah 34:1 - 2) of the day of the Lord's vengeance (verse 8). All of Isaiah 34 is a prophecy concerning the end time Day of the Lord, when God will punish all those on earth (especially Edom) for following the devil's evil ways and refusing to repent. Destruction will be everywhere with cities not only destroyed but also abandoned and fit for only wild animals (verses 11 - 15).; Sat Dec 09, 12:30:20 AM ( 5 months ago )
