6 22-24 The next day, people came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
25 When they found him, he said to them,
26 You're looking for me not because you saw the miracles, but because of the bread.
27 Don't work for meat that spoils, but for meat that lasts forever, which the Son of man will give you.
32 The bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
35 I'm the bread of life. Those who come to me will never be hungry. Those who believe in me will never thirst.
40 Those who see the Son and believe in him will live forever, and I'll raise them up on the last day.
41 The Jews murmured at him, because he said, “I’m the bread that comes down from heaven.”
42 They said,
Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph?
Why does he say he's come down from heaven?
43 Jesus said to them,
Don't murmur. I'm the bread of life.
51 I'm the living bread that comes down from heaven. If you eat this bread, you'll live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews said, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53 Jesus said,
You must eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, or you won't have life in you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood will live forever.
55 Because my flesh and blood are food and drink.
56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me and I in them.
57 Those who eat me, live by me.
60 When the disciples heard this, they said, “This is a hard saying. Who can believe it?”
66 From that time on, many disciples left Jesus.
67 Jesus said to the twelve, “Will you leave me too?”
68 Peter said, “Lord, where would we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
70 Jesus said, “Haven't I chosen you? And yet one of you is a devil.”
71 He was talking about Judas Iscariot who would betray him.
7 1 After these things, Jesus avoided the Jews because they wanted to kill him.
2 The feast of tabernacles was approaching, and his brothers said to him,
3 Go to Judea, so your disciples can see what you're doing.
4 Show yourself to the world.
5 (His brothers didn't believe in him.)
6 Jesus said,
My time hasn't come yet.
7 The world hates me, because I say its works are evil.
8 But you should go to the feast.
9 I won't be going, though, for my time hasn't come.
10 But when his brothers were gone, Jesus went to the feast in secret.
11 The Jews looked for Jesus at the feast but couldn't find him.
14-15 During the feast, Jesus taught in the temple, and the Jews said, “How does he know how to read, since he is uneducated?”
19 Jesus said, “Moses gave you the law, but none of you obey it. So why are you trying to kill me?”
20 The people said, “You have a devil. Who's trying to kill you?”
23 Jesus said, “You circumcise on the sabbath. So why are you angry with me for healing on the sabbath?”
31 But many of the people believed in him, and said, "When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than Jesus?"
32 When the Pharisees and chief priests heard what the people were saying about Jesus, they sent officers to arrest him.
33 Jesus said to them,
I'll be with you for a little while, then I'll go to the one who sent me.
34 You'll look for me but won't find me. Because where I am, you can't come.
37 On the day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out:
If you're thirsty, come to me and drink.
38 If you believe in me, like the scripture says, rivers of living water will flow out of your belly.
8 1-2 Then next morning, Jesus was teaching at the temple, when the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who was accused of adultery.
4 They said to him,
Master, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
5 The law of Moses commands us to stone her to death.
What do you say we should do?
6 Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground, as though he hadn't heard them.
7-8 Then he stood up and said, "Let whoever is without sin throw the first stone."
8 Then Jesus stooped down again and wrote on the ground.
9 And all of the woman's accusers left, one by one.
10 Jesus stood up and said,
Woman, where are your accusers?
Has no one condemned you?
11 The woman said, "No one."
And Jesus said,
Then I don't condemn you either.
Go, and don't sin anymore.
12 Then Jesus said,
I'm the light of the world.
If you follow me, you won't walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
13 The Pharisees said, “You are your own witness. Your testimony isn't true.”
14 Jesus said,
Though I'm my own witness, my testimony is true.
18 The Father is also a witness for me.
19-21 They said, "Where is your father?"
Jesus answered,
21 You don't know me or my father. I'm going away, and you will look for me.
But you'll die in your sins. Where I'm going, you can't come.
22 The Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself?”’
23 Jesus said,
You are from below, I'm from above.
24 You are from this world, I'm not from this world.
If you don't believe that I am he, you'll die in your sins.
30 And as he said these words, many people believed in him.
31-32 Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him,
If you do what I say, you are my disciples. You'll know the truth.
And the truth will set you free.
42 Jesus said,
If God was your father, you'd love me, because he sent me.
44 But your father is the devil.
48 The Jews said, “You're a Samaritan and you have a devil.”
49 Jesus said,
I don't have a devil.
If you do what I say, you'll never die.
52 The Jews said,
Now we know you have a devil. Abraham is dead, and so are the prophets.
53 Are you greater than Abraham?
54-56 Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”
57 The Jews said, “You're less than fifty years old, and yet you've seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am.”
59 When they heard Jesus say this, they began to gather stones to stone him to death.
But Jesus hid and left the temple.
