1431. Which Twelve hold the keys to open up the authority of my kingdom upon the four corners of the earth, and after that to send my word to every creature.   124:128
1432. Gather up the libelous publications that are afloat; And all that are in the magazines, and in the encyclopedias, and all the libelous histories that are published, and are writing, and by whom, and present the whole concatenation of diabolical rascality and nefarious and murderous impositions.   123:4
1433. Present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call him forth from his hiding place; and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before he can send forth the power of his mighty arm.   123:6
1434. Which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy.   123:10
1435. There are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it.   123:12
1436. The Lord has revealed unto me [Joseph Smith] that my enemies, both in Missouri and this State, were again in the pursuit of me ... I have thought it expedient and wisdom in me to leave the place for a short season ... When I learn that the storm is fully blown over, then I will return.   127:1
1437. I shall triumph over all my enemies, for the Lord God hath spoken it.   127:2
1438. God ...will mete out a just recompense of reward upon the heads of all their oppressors.   127:3
1439. When any of you are baptized for your dead, let there be a recorder, and let him be eye.   127:6

1443. Jesus Christ, wherein it is granted that whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.   128:8
1444. The baptismal font was instituted as a similitude of the grave.   128:13
1445. For their salvation is necessary and essential to our salvation, as Paul says concerning the fathers—that they without us cannot be made perfect—neither can we without our dead be made perfect.   128:15
1446. I will give you another quotation of Paul, 1 Corinthians 15:29: Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?.   128:16

1448. Glad tidings for the dead; a voice of gladness for the living and the dead; glad tidings of great joy.   128:19

1450. And again, the voice of God in the chamber of old Father Whitmer, in Fayette, Seneca county, and at sundry times ... And the voice of Michael, the archangel; the voice of Gabriel, and of Raphael, and of divers angels,.   128:21
1451. Go forward and not backward ... on to the victory! ... Let the earth break forth into singing.   128:22
1452. Let the mountains shout for joy, and all ye valleys cry aloud; and all ye seas and dry lands ... And ye rivers, and brooks, and rills, flow down with gladness.   128:23
1453. The great day of the Lord is at hand ... like fuller’s soap.   128:24
1454. Let us present in his holy temple, when it is finished, a book containing the records of our dead.   128:24
1455. I have many things to say to you on the subject; but shall now close for the present, and continue the subject another time.   128:25
1456. There are two kinds of beings in heaven, namely: Angels, who are resurrected personages, having bodies of flesh and bones.   129:1
1457. Secondly: the spirits of just men made perfect, they who are not resurrected, but inherit the same glory.   129:3
1458. When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.   129:4
1459. If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.   129:5
1460. If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear.   129:6
1461. Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive; but he will still deliver his message.   129:7
1462. If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.   129:8
1463. These are three grand keys whereby you may know whether any administration is from God.   129:9
1464. When the Savior shall appear we shall see him as he is.   130:1
1465. The angels ... reside in the presence of God, on a globe like a sea of glass and fire.   130:6
1466. The place where God resides is a great Urim and Thummim.   130:8
1467. This earth ..., will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim.   130:9
1468. The white stone mentioned in Revelation 2:17, will become a Urim and Thummim to each individual who receives one.   130:10
1469. And a white stone is given to each of those who come into the celestial kingdom, whereon is a new name written, which no man knoweth save he that receiveth it.   130:11
1470. I prophesy, in the name of the Lord God, that the commencement of the difficulties which will cause much bloodshed previous to the coming of the Son of Man will be in South Carolina.   130:12
1471. It may probably arise through the slave question.   130:13
1472. I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following: Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty.   130:14
1473. I believe the coming of the Son of Man will not be any sooner than that time.   130:17
1474. The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones.   130:22
1475. In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees.   131:1
1476. And in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage].   131:2
1477. It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance.   131:6
1478. All spirit is matter, but it is more fine or pure, and can only be discerned by purer eyes.   131:7
1479. We cannot see it; but when our bodies are purified we shall see that it is all matter.   131:8
1480. Inasmuch as you [Joseph Smith] have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines.   132:1
1481. I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.   132:4
1482. The law [was] instituted from before the foundation of the world.   132:5
1483. It was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.   132:6
1484. If a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore, they are not bound by any law when they are out of the world.   132:15
1485. When they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.   132:16
1486. For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels.   132:17
1487. If a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that covenant is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out of the world.   132:18
1488. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.   132:20
1489. God commanded Abraham, and Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to wife.   132:34
1490. Was Abraham, therefore, under condemnation? Verily I say unto you, Nay; for I, the Lord, commanded it.   132:35
1491. Abraham was commanded to offer his son Isaac; nevertheless, it was written: Thou shalt not kill.   132:36
1492.  Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods.   132:37
1493. David also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants,as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time; and in nothing did they sin save in those things which they received not of me.   132:38
1494.  David’s wives and concubines were given unto him of me, by the hand of Nathan, my servant, and others of the prophets who had the keys of this power; and in none of these things did he sin against me save in the case of Uriah and his wife; and, therefore he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord.   132:39
1495. I gave unto thee, my servant Joseph, an appointment, and restore all things.   132:40
1496. And as ye have asked concerning adultery ... if a man receiveth a wife in the new and everlasting covenant, and if she be with another man, and I have not appointed unto her by the holy anointing, she hath committed adultery and shall be destroyed.   132:41
1497. If she be not in the new and everlasting covenant, and she be with another man, she has committed adultery.   132:42
1498. I have conferred upon you [Joseph Smith] the keys and power of the priesthood, wherein I restore all things, and make known unto you all things in due time.   132:45
1499. Whatsoever you [Joseph Smith] seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever you bind on earth, in my name and by my word, saith the Lord, it shall be eternally bound in the heavens; and whosesoever sins you remit on earth shall be remitted eternally in the heavens; and whosesoever sins you retain on earth shall be retained in heaven.   132:46
1500. Whomsoever you [Joseph Smith] bless I [God] will bless, and whomsoever you curse I will curse,.   132:47
1501. Whatsoever you [Joseph Smith] give on earth, and to whomsoever you give any one on earth, by my word and according to my law, it shall be visited with blessings and not cursings.   132:48
1502. I am the Lord thy God, and will be with thee even unto the end of the world, and through all eternity; for verily I seal upon you your exaltation, and prepare a throne for you in the kingdom of my Father, with Abraham your father.   132:49
1503. I ... will forgive all your sins; I have seen your sacrifices in obedience to that which I have told you.   132:50
1504. A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you ... receive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed,.   132:51
1505. I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and cleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else.   132:54
1506. If she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an hundred.   132:55
1507. Let [Emma Smith] forgive my servant Joseph his trespasses; and then shall she be forgiven her trespasses, wherein she has trespassed against me; and I, the Lord thy God, will bless her.   132:56
1508. If any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.   132:61
1509. If he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.   132:62
1510. But if one or either of the ten virgins, after she is espoused, shall be with another man, she has committed adultery, and shall be destroyed; for they are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men.   132:63
1511. If any man have a wife, who holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priesthood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your God; for I will destroy her.   132:64
1512. If she receive not this law, for him to receive all things whatsoever I, the Lord his God, will give unto him, because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word; and she then becomes the transgressor; and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham according to the law when I commanded Abraham to take Hagar to wife.   132:65
1513. The Lord who shall come down upon the world with a curse .   133:2

1522. Their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.   133:26
1523. An highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.   133:27

1533. We do not believe that human law has a right to interfere in prescribing rules of worship to bind the consciences of men, nor dictate forms for public or private devotion.   134:4
1534. We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, while protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; and that sedition and rebellion are unbecoming every citizen thus protected, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience.   134:5
1535. To the laws all men owe respect and deference.   134:6
1536. We believe that rulers, states, and governments have a right, and are bound to enact laws for the protection of all citizens in the free exercise of their religious belief; but we do not believe that they have a right in justice to deprive citizens of this privilege, or proscribe them in their opinions, so long as a regard and reverence are shown to the laws and such religious opinions do not justify sedition nor conspiracy.   134:7
1537. We believe that the commission of crime should be punished.   134:8
1538. We do not believe it just to mingle religious influence with civil government, whereby one religious society is fostered and another proscribed in its spiritual privileges, and the individual rights of its members, as citizens, denied.   134:9
1539. We do not believe it right to interfere with bond.   134:12
1540. Joseph Smith ... has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived.   135:3
1541. Fear not thine enemies, for they are in mine hands and I will do my pleasure with them.   136:30
1542. Thy brethren have rejected you and your testimony, even the nation that has driven you out; And now cometh the day of their calamity ... and their sorrow shall be great unless they speedily repent.   136:34

1544. His [Joseph Smith's] death; but it was needful that he should seal his testimony with his blood, that he might be honored and the wicked might be condemned.   136:39

1546. The heavens were opened upon us, and I beheld the celestial kingdom of God, and the glory thereof, whether in the body or out I cannot tell.   137:1
1547. I saw ... the gate through which the heirs of that kingdom will enter, which was like unto circling flames of fire; Also the blazing throne of God, whereon was seated the Father and the Son.   137:2
1548. I saw the beautiful streets of that kingdom, which had the appearance of being paved with gold.   137:4
1549. I saw Father Adam and Abraham; and my father and my mother; my brother Alvin, that has long since slept; And marveled how it was that he had obtained an inheritance in that kingdom, seeing that he had departed this life before the Lord had set his hand to gather Israel the second time, and had not been baptized.   137:5
1550. Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom.   137:7
1551. All that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom.   137:8
1552. I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts.   137:9
1553. I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven.   137:10
1554. As I pondered over these things which are written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me, and I saw the hosts of the dead.   138:11
1555. While this vast multitude waited and conversed, rejoicing in the hour of their deliverance from the chains of death, the Son of God appeared ... And there he preached to them.   138:18
1556. Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died.   138:32
1557. Joseph Smith, and my father, Hyrum Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, and other choice spirits who were reserved to come forth in the fulness of times to take part in ... the building of the temples ... for the redemption of the dead, were also in the spirit world.   138:53
1558. Even before they were born, they, with many others, received their first lessons in the world of spirits.   138:56
1559. I beheld that the faithful elders ... preaching ... in the great world of the spirits of the dead.   138:57
