Revelation given to Joseph Smith at Kirtland, Ohio, December 16 and 17, 1833
1-2 Those in the church who have been afflicted, were afflicted by me to punish them for their transgressions. 3 I'll own them on the day that I make up my jewels. 4 They must be chastened, like Abraham, who was commanded to sacrifice his only son. 6 They polluted their inheritances by behaving badly. 7 They were slow to listen to me, so I'm slow to answer their prayers. 9 But my bowels are filled with compassion for them.
11 My anger will soon be poured out on all nations. I’ll do it when the cup of their iniquity is full. 12 Everyone on the watchtower, or in other words, everyone in Israel will be saved. 16 All flesh is in my hands. 21 I have other places that will be called stakes, for the curtains or the strength of Zion. 23 When the veil of my temple is removed, all flesh will see me. 24 Every animal, including humans, will be killed. 25 Everything else will melt and will become new.
63 I’ll show you wisdom concerning all the churches. 69 Here's my commandment on these things: Buy land with money in the land of Zion. 71 Buy everything you can in Jackson County, Missouri and the counties round about, leaving the rest in my hand. 72 So the churches should gather money to buy these lands. 74 This way we'll establish Zion.
77 We'll do all this in accordance with the Constitution. 79 It isn't right for one man to be in bondage to another. 80 For this purpose, I established the Constitution.
81-83 There once was a woman who said to a judge, “Punish my enemy.” 84 The judge said to himself, “I'll punish her enemy, so she'll leave me alone.”
85 It'll be like that for Zion. 86 The children of Zion should ask the judge to punish their enemies. 87 If he refuses, ask the governor. 88 If the governor doesn't do it, ask the president. 89 If the president doesn't listen to them, the Lord will come out of his hiding place and vex the nation. 90 And he'll cut them off like they were hypocrites or unbelievers, 91 where they'll weep, wail, and gnash their teeth. 92 But pray that this doesn't happen to them. 95 So I can do my strange act and my strange work.
96 It's contrary to my commandment for Sidney Gilbert to sell my storehouse. 101 Amen.
Minutes of the organization of the first high council of the Church, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 17, 1834
9 The president of the church is appointed by revelation. 23 If the council can't decide a matter of doctrine or principle, the president will ask and receive a revelation from the mind of the Lord.
Revelation given through Joseph Smith at Kirtland, Ohio, February 24, 1834
1 I'll give you a revelation and commandment. 2 I'll be pouring out my wrath, without measure, on my enemies in my own time. 3 I've put up with them for a while, waiting for their cup of iniquities to fill. 4 My followers will be chastened for a while to punish them for not obeying me. 6 I'll begin to defeat my enemies starting right now. 7 If the saints obey me, they will prevail until I defeat all of the kingdoms of the world and give the earth to them to possess forever. 8 But if they don't obey me, the kingdoms of the world will defeat them.
15 The redemption of Zion must come by power. 16 So I'll send a man like Moses to lead them. 17 Because you must be led out of bondage by power. 21 Joseph Smith, Jr. is the man whom I likened to Moses. 22 So let him say to the young and middle-aged men, Go to the land of Zion, which I have bought with money. 23 Let all the churches send money to buy land there, as I have commanded them.
24 If my enemies try to drive you from my goodly land, you will curse them. 25 Whoever you curse, I curse, and you will avenge my enemies for me. 26 With my help, you will avenge my enemies for three or four generations.
27 Don't be afraid to die for my sake. 28 If you're not willing to die for me, you're not my disciple.
29 Sidney Rigdon will preach in the eastern counties.
30 Parley Pratt and Lyman Wight should gather soldiers in groups of 10s, 20s, or 100 until they have a total of 500. 32 If you can't find 500, maybe you can find 300. 33 And if you can't find 300, try for 100. 35 Pray that Joseph Smith, Jr. will be with you. 37 Parley P. Pratt journey will go with Joseph Smith, Jr. 38 Lyman Wight will go with Sidney Rigdon. 39 Hyrum Smith will go with Frederick G. Williams. 40 Orson Hyde and Orson Pratt will go wherever Joseph Smith, Jr. goes. Leave the rest to me. Amen.
