Revelation given through Joseph Smith at Kirtland, Ohio, August 6, 1833
5 The law of the land is the constitution. 6 So befriend the constitutional law of the land. 7 Whatever is more or less than this is evil.
16-17 Renounce war and proclaim peace. Or I will smite the whole earth with a curse and everything living thing will die.
19 I'm not well pleased with many members of the Kirtland church. They do detestable things. 21 I will chasten them and do whatever I list, if they don't obey me.
23 If you are attacked once, bear it patiently and don't seek revenge. 25 If you're attacked again, don't revile your enemy. 27 If you're attacked a third time, bear it patiently.
28 If that enemy escapes my vengeance, warn them in my name. 29 If your enemy attacks you again (for the fourth time in your life or your 3rd or 4th generation descendants), I'll deliver them into your hands. 30 I'll reward you (and your descendants to the third or fourth generation) if you don't kill them all. 31 But if your enemy is in your hands, go ahead and kill them. 3232 That's what Nephi, Joseph, Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham did - as did all of my ancient prophets and apostles.
33 But don't go to war unless I command you. 34 If someone proclaims war against you, first wage a peace flag. 35 If they don't accept your flag the first, second, or third time, come talk to me about it. 36 I'll give you a commandment to go to war with them.
37 I'll fight your battles, and your children's battles, and your children's children's battles, until you are avenged of your enemies (for three or four generations). 39 But like I was saying, if your enemy attacks you the first time, and they repent, forgive them. 40 And so on to through the second and third time, even 490 times.
41 So forgive them the first time, even if they don't repent. 42 And the second time. 43 And the third time. 44 But if they do it a fourth time, don't forgive them. Come tell me about it. They won't be forgiven until they reward you with four times whatever they took from you. 45 If they pay you back four times, forgive them. If they don't, I'll make them pay 100 times as much. 46 And their descendants to the third and fourth generation. 47 But if their children or grandchildren repent, and give you back four times what they took, don't be angry with them anymore. 48 Vengeance won't come on them anymore. Amen.
Revelation given through Joseph Smith to John Murdock, August 29, 1832, at Hiram, Ohio
1 This is what the Lord says about John Murdock. He will go preach in the eastern countries. 4 My father will reject whoever rejects you. When this happens, wash your feet in the secret places. 5 Behold, I come quickly to pay them back for all their ungodly deeds against me (as is written in the book).
6 But don't go until your children are provided for. 7 After a few years, you may go to the goodly land to possess your inheritance. 8 Otherwise, just keep preaching until you die. Amen.
Revelation given to Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon, at Perrysburg, New York, October 12, 1833
1 Joseph and Sidney, your families are well. They're in my hands. I'll do to them whatever seems good to me. I have all the power. 3 There's a lot of people around here. And a door will be opened in the eastern land.
5 Say whatever I put into your hearts. 6 You'll be told what to say. 7 Here's a commandment for you: Say whatever you say in my name. 8 If you do this, the Holy Ghost will be shed forth.
9 Sidney, you'll be the spokesman for Joseph. 11 Joseph will be a revelator to you.
13 Zion will be redeemed, although she'll be chastened for a while. 14 Orson Hyde and John Gould are in my hands. If they keep my commandments, they'll be saved.
16 I'll raise up to myself a pure people. 17 All that call upon the name of the Lord and keep his commandments will be saved. Amen.
