Joseph Smith has the keys to the kingdom (64-68)

Episode 94: Joseph Smith has the keys to the kingdom

Doctrine and Covenants 64-68

Section 64

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to the elders of the Church, at Kirtland, Ohio, September 11, 1831

Joseph Smith has the keys to the kingdom

5 Joseph Smith, Jun. has the keys to the kingdom, and they will never be taken from him. 6 Some have falsely accused him. 7 And he has sinned. But I forgive him.

Ezra Booth and other sinners

15 I [God] was angry with Ezra Booth and Isaac Morley. 16 They said things were evil when they were not evil. But I've forgiven Isaac Morely. 17 Edward Partridge has sinned, and Satan is trying to destroy his soul. But I'll forgive them.

Who should sell his farm (and other business matters)

18 Sidney Gilbert should return to his business in Zion. 20 I command Isaac Morley to sell his farm. 21 But I don't want Frederick G. Williams to sell his farm. I want to have a strong hold on Kirtland for the next five years. (I won't destroy the wicked during that time.)

If you tithe, I won't burn you when Jesus comes

23 Everyone must tithe until the Son of Man comes. Those who tithe won't be burned when he comes. 24 After "today" comes the burning (I'm speaking the way the Lord speaks). "Tomorrow" I'll burn all the proud and wicked people. I won't spare anyone in Babylon. 25 So labor while it's still called "today".

Don't sell the store (or get in debt to your enemies)

26 I don't want Newel K. Whitney and Sidney Gilbert to sell their store - until everyone here goes to Zion. 27 I forbid any of you to get in debt to your enemies.

The Lord takes what he wants (and pays back whenever he wants)

28The Lord takes what he wants and pays back whenever he wants.

The church will judge the nations

35 The rebellious will be cut off from the land of Zion. 36 The rebellious aren't of the blood of Ephraim, so they'll be plucked out. 37 I've made my church in these last days the judge of all nations. 43 The nations of the earth will tremble because of the church and fear her terrible ones. I, the Lord, have said so. Amen.

Revelation on prayer given through Joseph Smith at Hiram, Ohio, October 30, 1831

1-6 Hearken and lo....

Section 66

Revelation given through Joseph Smith at Hiram, Ohio, October 29, 1831

William E. McLellin - Go preach to the eastern Jews (and send your money to Zion)

1 William E. McLellin, you are blessed for believing. 3 But you're not quite clean. 4 Now I, the Lord, will tell you what I want you to do, or what I want you to do. 5 Preach my gospel where it hasn't been preached before. 6 Don't go to Zion yet, but send as much money there as you can. 7 Go preach in all of the eastern synagogues.

Heal the sick, but don't commit adultery (which is something you tend to do)

8 Take Samuel H. Smith with you. (I'll go along with you, as well.) 9 Touch sick people with your hands, and they'll recover. Don't return until I tell you. 10 Don't commit adultery (which is something you have a bit of a problem with.) 13 That's what I, Jesus, your God, say to you. Amen.

Section 67

Revelation given through Joseph Smith at Hiram, Ohio, early November 1831

Try to write a commandment like Joseph Smith's

1 Behold and hearken, elders of my church. 3 You wanted to receive my blessing, but you were afraid, so you didn't get it. 5 You've seen Joseph Smith, Jr. And you've heard his language and his imperfections. 6-7 So select the least commandment in the Book of Commandments and let the wisest person among you write a commandment like it. If you can do that, then you can say they aren't true. 8 But if you can't do it, you will be condemned. 14 Amen.

Section 68

Revelation given through Joseph Smith at Hiram, Ohio, November 1, 1831

Anyone who is inspired speaks scripture

11 Orson Hyde was called by the Spirit of God to preach to the wicked in their synagogues. 4 Whatever anyone says when moved by the Holy Ghost is scripture, and is the will, mind, word, voice, and power of God. 7 This is the word of the Lord to Orson Hyde, Luke Johnson, Lyman Johnson, and William E. McLellin. 8 Go preach and baptize.

Disbelievers are damned

9 Those who believe and are baptized are saved, those that don't believe are damned.

Literal descendants of Aaron are bishops

16 Literal descendants and firstborn sons of Aaron have a legal right to be bishops.

Baptize children when they're eight years old

27 Baptize children when they're eight years old.

3131 I'm not pleased with the inhabitants of Zion. They're lazy and their children are wicked. 32 Oliver Cowdery should say these things in the land of Zion.

35 I come quickly. Amen.
