7 1 Alma preached in the city of Gideon in his own language with his own mouth. Here are some of the things that he said:
6 I trust that you aren't in a state of much unbelief.
7 The Redeemer lives and comes among his people.
10 The Son of God will be born in Jerusalem and his mother’s name will be Mary.
21 He who is filthy will remain in his filthiness.
27 And thus I have spoken. Amen.
8 1 1 After preaching in Gideon, Alma returned to his home in Zarahemla to rest. 2-3 A year or so later, in 82 BCE, he decided to go preach in Melek, on the west side of the Sidon River, on the edge of the wilderness. 4-5 People came from far away to get baptized and hear Alma’s preaching.
6 Then Alma went to a city called Ammonihah. 9 But Satan had had gotten a hold on the city, so they wouldn’t listen to Alma. They said to him, “We don’t believe in your foolish traditions.” 13 They rejected his words, reviled him, spit on him, and told him to leave. So he left towards the city of Aaron.
14 On his way, an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, 15 “God wants you to return to the city of Ammonihah and preach again. 16 He says to tell them that if they don’t repent, he’ll destroy them.”
18 So Alma returned to Ammonihah. 19 By the time he arrived, he was hungry, and said to a man, “Do you have something to eat?” 20-21 The man’s name was Amulek, and he brought Alma home and gave him bread and meat.
27 Alma stayed with Amulek for many days. Then he began preaching again to the people of Ammonihah. 28 But the people waxed even more gross. 29 Then the word came again to Alma and said, “Tell the people that I’ll get angry with them if they don’t repent.”
31 Alma and Amulek kept preaching, with the God-given power not to be confined in dungeons or killed. But they didn't use their power right away. They were waiting until they were cast into prison. (Just to show off God's power.)
9 1-2 God commanded Amulek and me (but mostly me) to return and preach to the people of Ammonihah. So I did. But they argued with me, saying, “Why should we believe that God will soon destroy the whole earth or that he will destroy this city in one day?”
5 They were a hard-hearted and stiff-necked people. So I said to them, 19 “Repent or God will send the Lamanites to kill you. 26 The Son of God will come not many days from now. 31 You are a hard-hearted and stiff-necked people.”
32 When I said these things the people became angry and tried to throw me in prison. 33 But God wouldn’t let them.
34 After that, I stopped speaking and let Amulek speak. But only some of his words are included in this book.
10 1 This is what Amulek said to the people of Ammonihah, 2 "I’m Amulek, a descendant of Aminadi, who interpreted the writing on the wall of the temple that was written by the hand of God. 6 I rebelled against God until the fourth day of the seventh month of the year 82 BCE. 7 On that day an angel appeared to me and said, ‘Go home and feed a prophet of the Lord.’ 8 So I went home and saw the man (Alma) and fed him.” 12 When the people heard this they were astonished.
13-16 But everyone wasn't convinced. Some lawyers started to ask questions.
17 Amulek said to them, “Oh you wicked and perverse generation! You lawyers and hypocrites! You are trying to trap the holy ones of God. 20 Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.22 If it weren’t for the prayers of the righteous, God will kill you all by disease, famine, or the sword.”
24 Amulek’s words angered the people, who said, “This man attacks our laws and wise lawyers whom we have selected.” 25 Amulek responded, “You wicked and perverse generation! Why do to you let Satan control your hearts? 27 God will kill you because of your lawyers and judges.” 28 Then the people said, “Now we know this man is a child of the devil because has lied to us.” 31 And the cleverest of the lawyers was Zeezrom. 32 But all the lawyers were greedy.
