How did Allah destroy the tribe of Thamud?

Whoso seeketh as religion other than the Surrender (to Allah) it will not be accepted from him, and he will be a loser in the Hereafter. 3:85

(The tribe of) Thamud ... rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed. 51:43
