The named women in the Bible, Quran, and Mormon Scriptures

I've started a new section to the SAB entitled "Scripture Comparisons," where I compare the way various topics are treated in the Bible, Quran, and Mormon Scriptures.

I've completed about 26 so far. This is the most recent one.

Bible

I haven't tried to count the number of named women in the Bible, but others have. It is not a simple task, however, since different names are sometimes used for the same woman, and different women sometimes have the same name. So the number of named women varies somewhat from study to study. The number from studies reported in Wikipedia vary from 111 to 170.

Since there are approximately 3000 named men in the Bible, somewhere between 4 and 6 percent of the named individuals in the Bible are women.

Quran

Only one woman is named in the Quran: Mary, the mother of Jesus.

She is mentioned 39 times and has a surah named after her - Surah 19. (The Bible mentions her by name only 19 times.)

Since there are about 30 men mentioned by name in the Quran, approximately 3% are women.

Mormon Scriptures

Eight women are named in the Mormon Scriptures, three of which are biblical characters

Biblical women
Mary, the Mother of Jesus (mentioned by name only once in Alma 7:10)
Sarah, wife of Abraham (once in 2 Nephi 8:2)
Eve (three times in 1 Nephi 5:11, 2 Nephi 2:18, 2 Nephi 2:19)
Book of Mormon
Sariah, Lehi's wife (mentioned in 1 Nephi 2:5, 5:1, 5:6, and 8:14)
Abish, a Lamanite woman (Alma 19:16 and 19:28)
Isabel, a harlot (Alma 39:3)
Doctrine and Covenants
Emma Smith, Joseph Smith's wife (Section 25:1)
Vienna Jaques, faithful financial supporter (90:28)

Since there are over 200 named men in the Book of Mormon, about 1.5% of the named individuals are women. (2.7% if you include the biblical and Doctrine and Covenants women.)
