The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto
him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight
of the LORD; and he slew him.

2:34Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an
Egyptian, whose name was Jarha.

Since Sheshan had no sons (and was getting impatient about it), he gave one of his daughters to a slave so they could produce a son for him.
