An interesting thing about the way the Book of Lamentations is structured comes from the number of verses each chapter contains.
Chapters 1, 2, 4, and 5 each have 22 verses. Chapter 3 has 66. In the Hebrew Bible, chapters 1, 2, and 4 are written as acrostics; the Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, so these particular chapters are written so that each letter in sequence begins each verse. Chapter 5 has 22 verses, but doesn't follow this particular pattern.
Chapter 3 has 66 verses and is also an acrostic, but merely to allow each letter to begin three different verses rather than just one.
The Book of Lamentations is nevertheless a sad collection of dirges and laments for the destruction of Jerusalem.
