Revelation given through Joseph Smith in Zion, Jackson County, Missouri, August 1, 1831
14 I appointed Edward Partridge to a mission in this land. 15 But he needs to repent of his unbelief. 17 His mission is to divide the land among the church members.
Don't break the laws of the land. 23 Here is wisdom: obey my laws, which are the laws of the church. 29 Whoever obeys with a doubtful heart is damned.
32 If one of my commandments is disobeyed, I revoke it. 33 Then people say to themselves, "This isn't the work of the Lord." Wo to them. They'll receive their reward from below, not above.
35 It's wisdom that Martin Harris is an example to the church by giving his money to the bishop of the church. 36 Every member of the church must do the same. 37 It is also wisdom that the church buy land in Independence for the storehouse and a house of printing.
38 The Spirit will give Martin Harris more directions later. 39 But he must repent for seeking the praise of the world. 40 William W. Phelps should do what I told him to do. 41 I, the Lord, am not well pleased with him, because he isn't sufficiently meek before me.
49 Let an agent of the church in Ohio buy lands in Zion. 50 Here's a commandment for Sidney Rigdon: write a description of the land of Zion and a statement of the will of God, as told to him by the Spirit. 51 Put all the money in the hands of the bishop or the agent to buy land. 52 The Lord wants his people to purchase the whole region of the country as soon as possible.
60 Take what was given to Ziba Peterson until he is sufficiently chastened. Because he didn't confess his sins and tried to hide them. 65 The son of Man comes. Amen.
Revelation given through Joseph Smith in Zion, Jackson County, Missouri, August 7, 1831
1 Blessed are those who keep an eye on my glory. 3 Blessed are those whose feet stand on Zion. 4 They'll get new commandments and revelations from me.
6 Love your neighbor as yourself.
15 Don't laugh, because laughing is a sin. (But be cheerful.)
16 The beasts of the field, the fowls of the air, things that climb on trees and walk on the earth - they all belong to you. 17 The herbs are all to eat, make clothes, barns, orchards, gardens, or vineyards. 18 Everything was made just for you. 19 it was made for you to eat, taste, smell, strengthen your body, or make clothes from.
21 But you must obey the commandments. 22 It's all there in the law and prophets, so don't bother me anymore about it. 24 I, the Lord, have said it. Amen.
Revelation given through Joseph Smith in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri, August 8, 1831
1 This is what the Lord says to the elders of his church: I'm glad you're here. 2 But I'm not pleased with some of you. You're afraid to open your mouths. So wo to you, because I'm angry with you. 3 If they aren't more faithful to me, I'll take away what little they have. 4 Because I, the Lord, rule the heavens above and the armies below. When I make up my jewels, everyone will know how powerful I am.
5 Now about your journey. Build a craft (I don't care what kind, whatever seems good to you) and travel to St. Louis.
6 From there, Sidney Rigdon, Joseph Smith, Jun., and Oliver Cowdery will travel to Cincinnati. 7 In Cincinnati they will shout and lift up holy hands. 8 Everyone else will leave St. Louis, two by two, to preach to the wicked. 10 Edward Partridge will give some of the money that I gave him to the elders.
12 And now I speak to the others who came here. 13 Here's a commandment for you: Don't idle away your time while preaching to the wicked. 14 When you get to Zion, preach to the wicked. 15 Shake off the dust from your feet and wash them, as a testimony against those who reject your preaching. (But don't do it while they're watching.) 17 Joseph Smith, Jun.'s mouth will tell Sidney Rigdon and Oliver Cowdery what to do. Then he'll tell the rest of you. Amen.
