Questions for Jehovah's Witnesses
- The Governing Body claims to base all of its teachings on the bible. For example, it uses Rev.7:4 to justify the belief that
only 144,000 will make it to heaven. But the WatchTower goes even further than this, claiming that the 144,000 were selected by 1935, so
that there is no more room in heaven.
- What then is the scriptural basis for the closure of heaven in 1935?
- If the 1935 date is not based on scripture, are JWs free to ignore this teaching?
- How could anyone know the precise date when heaven was filled?
- JWs appeal to Is.43:12 and 44:8 to justify their name. But
Is.62:2 prophesies a new name for God's followers. Since
the old name was JW, what would this new name be? Christians
point to Acts 11:26, where the followers of Christ were first called Christians at Antioch.
(The NWT inserts the words 'O woman' in brackets in Is.62:2 to give the impression that it is
Jerusalem (the woman) that will be given the new name.)
- What is the new name that is prophesied in Is.62:2?
- Were the early Christians called Jehovah's Witnesses?
- When was the name JW first used?
- If the name is so important, why did God wait nearly 2000 years to reveal it?
- Why isn't the name JW found anywhere in the NT?
-
1 Cor.11:26 says, "For as often as you eat this
loaf and drink this cup, you keep
proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives." (NWT). If Christ arrived
in 1914, as the governing body
teaches, then why do Jehovah's Witnesses continue to partake of the bread and
wine? Shouldn't they have
stopped in 1914?
