How should parents be treated?


Honor, respect, and obey your parents.

Honour thy father and thy mother. Exodus 20:12, Deuteronomy .5:16, Ephesians 6:2

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother. Proverbs 1:8

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Malachi 4:6

Disrespect and hate your parents.

Jesus told his followers to call no man their father.
Call no man your father upon the earth. Matthew 23:9
He discouraged a son from burying his father.
And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead. Luke 9:59-60
He said that you must hate your mother and father in order to be his disciple.
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26
And he set the example himself, by disrespecting his own parents.
And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? Luke 2:48-49

The mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? John 2:3-4

Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Matthew 12:47-49, Mark 3:32-33, Luke 8:20-21
