Mormon: Selected Verses

  1. And now I, Mormon, make a record of the things which I have both seen and heard, and call it the Book of Mormon. 1:1
  2. The people were as numerous almost, as it were the sand of the sea. 1:7
  3. The Holy Ghost did not come upon any, because of their wickedness and unbelief. 1:14
  4. And I, being fifteen years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord, and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus. 1:15
  5. I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had wilfully rebelled against their God. 1:16
  6. The inhabitants thereof began to hide up their treasures in the earth; and they became slippery, because the Lord had cursed the land. 1:18
  7. The Nephites ... began to cry ... but ... their sorrowing was ... the sorrowing of the damned. 2:10-13
  8. They did not come unto Jesus with broken hearts and contrite spirits, but they did curse God, and wish to die. 2:14
  9. I saw thousands of them hewn down in open rebellion against their God, and heaped up as dung upon the face of the land. 2:15
  10. Then the voice of the Lord came to me and said, Vengeance is mine ..., they shall be cut off from the face of the earth. 3:14-15
  11. It is by the wicked that the wicked are punished. 4:5
  12. This people [the Lamanites] shall be scattered, and shall become a dark, a filthy, and a loathsome people ... because of their unbelief and idolatry. 5:11
  13. They [the Lamanites] were once a delightsome people ... but now, behold, they are led about by Satan. 5:17-18
  14. If ye believe that [the Bible] ye will believe this [the Bookd of Mormon] also. 7:9
  15. Great and marvelous is the destruction of my people, the Nephites. And behold, it is the hand of the Lord which hath done it. 8:7-8
  16. Whoso receiveth this record, and shall not condemn it because of the imperfections which are in it. 8:12
  17. If there be faults [in Moroni's record] they be the faults of a man. 8:17
  18. He that condemneth [the plates] ... shall be in danger of hell fire. 8:17
  19. The same that judgeth rashly shall be judged rashly again ... he that smiteth shall be smitten again, of the Lord. 8:19
  20. He that shall breathe out wrath and strifes against the work of the Lord ... the same is in danger to be hewn down and cast into the fire. 8:21
  21. The blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness. 8:27
  22. Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing. 8:35
  23. Your churches, yea, even every one, have become polluted. 8:36
  24. Why do ye build up your secret abominations? 8:40
  25. The sword of vengeance hangeth over you; and the time soon cometh that he avengeth the blood of the saints upon you. 8:41
  26. Ye shall be brought to see your nakedness before God, and ... and the holiness of Jesus Christ ... will kindle a flame of unquenchable fire upon you. 9:5
  27. Ye unbelieving, turn ye unto the Lord ... that perhaps ye may be found spotless, pure, fair, and white, having been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb. 9:6
  28. Jesus Christ, even the Father and the Son. 9:12
  29. He that is filthy shall be filthy still ... and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still. 9:14
  30. The reason why he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is because that they dwindle in unbelief. 9:20
  31. He that believeth not shall be damned. 9:23
  32. These signs shall follow them that believe -- in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. 9:24
  33. Doubt not, but be believing. 9:27
  34. We have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the reformed Egyptian. 9:32
  35. If our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew. 9:33
  36. If we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record. 9:33
  37. These things are written that we may rid our garments of the blood of our brethren, who have dwindled in unbelief. 9:35
