3 Nephi: Selected Verses

  1. He [Nephi Sr.] departed out of the land, and whither he went, no man knoweth. 1:3
  2. There was a day set apart by the unbelievers, that all those who believed in those traditions should be put to death. 1:9
  3. Be of good cheer ... on the morrow come I [the Lord] into the world. 1:13
  4. The people began to be astonished because there was no darkness when the night came. 1:15
  5. Many, who had not believed ... fell to the earth and became as if they were dead. 1:16
  6. All the people upon the face of the whole earth ... were so exceedingly astonished that they fell to the earth. 1:17
  7. It came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. 1:19
  8. It came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word. 1:21
  9. The people ... began to be less and less astonished at a sign or a wonder. 2:1
  10. Satan ... lead them away to believe that the doctrine of Christ was a foolish and a vain thing. 2:2
  11. The people ... did not believe that there should be any more signs or wonders given. 2:3
  12. Nephi, who was the father of Nephi ... did not return to the land of Zarahemla, and could nowhere be found in all the land. 2:9
  13. Their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephites. 2:15
  14. Their young men and their daughters became exceedingly fair. 2:16
  15. Those armies of robbers ... began ... to sally forth from the hills. 4:1
  16. They were girded about after the manner of robbers; and they had a lamb-skin about their loins, and they were dyed in blood, and their heads were shorn. 4:7
  17. May the Lord ... cause to be felled to the earth all who shall seek to slay them because of power and secret combinations. 4:29
  18. Their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears. 4:33
  19. There was not a living soul among all the people of the Nephites who did doubt in the least the words of all the holy prophets. 5:1
  20. Thus they did put an end to all those wicked, and secret, and abominable combinations. 5:6
  21. Behold, I am called Mormon. 5:12
  22. I am Mormon. 5:20
  23. And the regulations of the government were destroyed, because of the secret combination. 7:6
  24. The more righteous part of the people had nearly all become wicked. 7:7
  25. The more part of the people had turned from their righteousness, like the dog to his vomit. 7:8
  26. In the name of Jesus did he [Nephi] cast out devils and unclean spirits; and even his brother [Timothy] did he raise from the dead, after he had been stoned and suffered death by the people. 7:19
  27. In the thirty and fourth year ... the city of Zarahemla did take fire. 8:5-8
  28. In the thirty and fourth year ... the city of Moroni did sink into the depths of the sea, and the inhabitants thereof were drowned. 8:5-9
  29. In the thirty and fourth year ... the earth was carried up upon the city of Moronihah that in the place of the city there became a great mountain. 8:5-10
  30. Many great and notable cities were sunk, and many were burned, and many were shaken till the buildings thereof had fallen to the earth, and the inhabitants thereof were slain. 8:14
  31. Some who were carried away in the whirlwind; and whither they went no man knoweth. 8:16
  32. The face of the whole earth became deformed. 8:17
  33. For the space of three days that there was no light seen. 8:23
  34. It came to pass that there was a voice heard among all the inhabitants of the earth. 9:1
  35. Wo, wo, wo unto this people; wo unto the inhabitants of the whole earth except they shall repent; for the devil laugheth, and his angels rejoice. 9:2
  36. Behold, that great city Zarahemla have I [Jesus] burned with fire, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:3
  37. Behold, that great city Moroni have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk in the depths of the sea, and the inhabitants thereof to be drowned. 9:4
  38. Behold, that great city Moronihah have I [Jesus] covered with earth, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:5
  39. Behold, the city of Gilgal have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk, and the inhabitants thereof to be buried up in the depths of the earth. 9:6
  40. Yea, and the city of Onihah and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Mocum and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Jerusalem and the inhabitants thereof; and waters have I [Jesus] caused to come up in the stead thereof. 9:7
  41. Behold, the city of Gadiandi, and the city of Gadiomnah, and the city of Jacob, and the city of Gimgimno, all these have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk, and made hills and valleys in the places thereof; and the inhabitants thereof have I buried up in the depths of the earth. 9:8
  42. Behold, that great city Jacobugath ... have I [Jesus] caused to be burned with fire because of their sins and their wickedness, which was above all the wickedness of the whole earth, because of their secret murders and combinations. 9:9
  43. Behold, the city of Laman, and the city of Josh, and the city of Gad, and the city of Kishkumen, have I [Jesus] caused to be burned with fire, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:10
  44. Because ... there were none righteous among them, I [Jesus] did send down fire and destroy them. 9:11
  45. Many great destructions have I [Jesus] caused to come upon this land. 9:12
  46. It came to pass that ... they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven. 11:3
  47. And it came to pass that again they heard the voice, and they understood it not. 11:4
  48. And again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open their ears to hear it. 11:5
  49. Behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white. 11:8
  50. Behold, I am Jesus Christ. 11:10
  51. Thrust your hands into my side, and also .. my feet. 11:14
  52. There shall be no disputations among you. 11:28
  53. Whoso believeth not in me [Jesus], and is not baptized, shall be damned. 11:34
  54. Whoso remembereth these sayings of mine and doeth them, him will I raise up at the last day. 15:1
  55. Ye [the Nephites] are they of whom I [Jesus] said: Other sheep. 15:21
  56. I [Jesus] command you that ye shall write these sayings after I am gone. 16:4
  57. Wo, saith the Father, unto the unbelieving of the Gentiles. 16:8
  58. Now I go unto the Father, and also to show myself unto the lost tribes of Israel, for they are not lost unto the Father, for he knoweth whither he hath taken them. 17:4
  59. My bowels are filled with compassion. 17:6
  60. My bowels are filled with mercy. 17:7
  61. Jesus groaned within himself. 17:14
  62. The things which he prayed cannot be written. 17:15
  63. Behold they were as white as the countenance and also the garments of Jesus; and behold the whiteness thereof did exceed all the whiteness, yea, even there could be nothing upon earth so white as the whiteness thereof. 197:25
  64. Jesus ... did smile upon them again; and behold they were white, even as Jesus. 17:30
  65. Fire ... came down from heaven ... and angels did come down out of heaven and did minister unto them. 19:14
  66. Behold they [the Nephite disciples] were as white as the countenance and also the garments of Jesus; and behold the whiteness thereof did exceed all the whiteness, yea, even there could be nothing upon earth so white as the whiteness thereof. 19:25
  67. He [Jesus] also gave them wine to drink. 20:5
  68. He that eateth this bread eateth of my body to his soul; and he that drinketh of this wine drinketh of my blood to his soul. 20:8
  69. Ye shall be among them ... as a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he goeth through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces. 20:16
  70. I [Jesus] will make thy horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass. And thou shalt beat in pieces many people. 20:19
  71. Put on thy beautiful garments ... there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. 20:36
  72. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet. 20:40
  73. So will I [Jesus] destroy thy cities. 21:18
  74. I will [Jesus] execute vengeance and fury upon them. 21:21
  75. Yea, a commandment I [Jesus] give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. 23:1
  76. Behold, other scriptures I [Jesus] would that ye should write, that ye have not. 23:6
  77. He [Jesus] commanded them that they [the Nephites] should write the words which the Father had given unto Malachi. 24:1
  78. Ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet. 25:3
  79. He shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. 25:6
  80. These scriptures [the book of Malachi], which ye had not with you, the Father commanded that I [Jesus] should give unto you. 26:2
  81. He [Jesus] did expound all things, even from the beginning until the time that he should come in his glory -- yea, even all things which should come upon the face of the earth, even until the elements should melt with fervent heat, and the earth should be wrapt together as a scroll, and the heavens and the earth should pass away. 26:3
  82. There cannot be written in this book even a hundredth part of the things which Jesus did truly teach. 26:6
  83. Babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things; and the things which they did utter were forbidden. 26:16
  84. Many of them saw and heard unspeakable things, which are not lawful to be written. 26:18
  85. Behold, I was about to write the names of those who were never to taste of death, but the Lord forbade. 28:25
  86. Wo be unto him that will not hearken unto the words of Jesus ... it would be better for them if they had not been born. 28:34-35
  87. When the Lord shall see fit, in his wisdom, that these sayings shall come unto the Gentiles. 29:1
  88. Wo unto him that shall deny the revelations of the Lord, and that shall say the Lord no longer worketh by revelation, or by prophecy. 29:6
